Come on, Bayview, you know you’ve missed this.
A ton of copycat gossip apps have popped up since Simon died, but in the year since the Bayview four were cleared of his shocking death, no one’s been able to fill the gossip void quite like he could. The problem is no one has the facts.
This time it’s not an app, though—it’s a game.
Truth or Dare.
Phoebe’s the first target. If you choose not to play, it’s a truth. And hers is dark.
Then comes Maeve and she should know better—always choose the dare.
But by the time Knox is about to be tagged, things have gotten dangerous. The dares have become deadly, and if Maeve learned anything from Bronwyn last year, it’s that they can’t count on the police for help. Or protection.
Simon’s gone, but someone’s determined to keep his legacy at Bayview High alive. And this time, there’s a whole new set of rules.
One of Us is Next is the sequel to to One of Us is Lying.
I’ll start this off by saying I LOVED One of Us is Lying. I think the plot was so original and kept me guessing all the way to the end. Because of this, I had high expectations for the sequel and unfortunately it was just “ok”.
It followed the same general “theme” but the story followed a younger class grade. To be honest, I think the idea of a secret “truth or dare” game isn’t very original, so that was a bit of a bummer. We got updates on the characters from the first book which was enjoyable. Overall, the character stories were well thought out and there weren’t many issues there.
Without giving too much away, the “things” that happened this time around seemed FAR less realistic than the original book. I hate to compare the two, but I think it’s fair game when you’re reviewing the sequel. There were times when there were too many big events happening and not to say that doesn’t happen in real life, it just took away from the overall storyline. I think it also took away value from the other events happening.
All in all, it was a decent follow-up to One of Us is Lying but isn’t one I would rush to read.
